Charity Connections: YouthQuake Live and the Byll-Cataria Family
This is a story about how one family bought a house, supported a fantastic charity, and helped change lives through a donation that didn’t cost them a dime.
I met Sitou and Diana Byll-Cataria when I was a student at the University of North Florida. Sitou was my boss and fellow student. He hired me to be part of his administration in student government. He had just been elected student body president and was looking for a communications director, so he interviewed me and gave me the job. Sitou immigrated from Togo in West Africa. I had been to West Africa on a humanitarian trip and I’ve always valued Sitou’s story, hard work, and some of our mutual experiences in Africa. We’ve been friends ever since.
Diana and Sitou were both students at UNF when they met in 2007. Since then, they’ve gotten married, had a child, and they have one more on the way. They reached out to me in the summer of 2018 hoping to buy their first home. We were able to find a house that met their needs, secure financing, and get an offer accepted. They closed on their first home in September.
YouthQuake Live exists to partner with its community to inspire young people to fulfill their God-given destiny through life-changing entertainment. I was a part of YouthQuake Live when I was a teenager. It really shaped who I am today and played a huge role in my life. You can learn more about what YouthQuake Live is up to by watching the video below.
When I was working with Sitou and Diana, I asked them if they would like to participate in supporting YouthQuake Live with me. I explained to them that I am donating a big portion of my commission from the sale of their home to a local charity and they wanted the donation to go to YouthQuake Live. So after they closed on their home, together we donated $400 from my commission to YouthQuake Live. It was our way of doing good in our community in a big way as simply as possible.
I hope you’ll consider joining our community of givers by registering to buy or sell a home or recruit a friend through Giving House.
